Newport News councilman to speak at Mathews King service

The Mathews chapter of the NAACP will hold its Martin Luther King Jr. program at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wayland Baptist Church, Beaverlett.

Marcellus L. “B2” Harris III, a Newport News native who was elected to the Newport News City Council in 2016, will serve as guest speaker. Since 2005, he has worked for Newport News Public Schools as an academic counselor, advisor and athletic coach (football and track).

Harris was a part of the last graduating class at Ferguson High School. Harris is married to Rasheena Harris and has two children, Marlinda, 6, and Marcellus Harris IV, 5. He earned his bachelor’s degree in child development and family relations from East Carolina University and a master’s in counseling from Hampton University.
