New veterinarian joins Gloucester practice

Dr. Giniaro C. Ortiz is a new associate at the Gloucester Veterinary Hospital on Route 17.

Ortiz joined the Gloucester practice in mid-March. He previously worked for about six years at a Williamsburg veterinary practice.

Ortiz said he is comfortable caring for many types of animals. Although he most often sees dogs and cats, he also treats some exotic birds and also “pocket pets” like hamsters.

In his short time here, Ortiz said he’s met a lot of clients and enjoys working with the professional staff at the local center including his principal nurse, Cristin Carter of Gloucester.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Ortiz attended Ross University in St. Kitts for three years of his veterinary program and one year at the veterinary school at Virginia Tech. He earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Puerto Rico Colegio de Mayaguez. Ortiz resides in Williamsburg with his wife, Cristina, a certified public accountant for a Newport News firm.
