New twist in PD softball schedules; Lady Dukes open with a win

The Peninsula District has a new twist in its softball schedules this season, according to Gloucester High School Varsity Softball Coach David Lindsay. 

Lindsay said that instead of playing each PD team once early in the season and again later in the season, teams will now face each district opponent twice in the same week. 

In addition, the district has moved its games from the traditional Tuesday/Friday game days to a Tuesday/Thursday set-up. 

As for the Dukes, Lindsay said his 2019 team looks to improve on last year’s 17-4 record, which included an appearance in the 5A regional tournament.

With eight starters returning, senior Bridget Motley will resume her duties as catcher while senior Kirsten Greene and junior Mackenzie Smith will be pitching for Gloucester.
