New staff announced at G-M Humane Society

New staff members, a program to help feral cats, and setting of the annual meeting, were all announced this week by the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.

Dr. Karen DeAngelis has joined the staff as its interim veterinarian and Carey Dawson has been hired as the shelter’s new manager, according to executive director Amanda Wroten.

DeAngelis is a practicing veterinarian at Pine Meadow Veterinary Hospital in Yorktown, holding a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in animal science from Cornell University. A Gloucester County resident, DeAngelis also serves on the board of the Peninsula SPCA. Wroten said this is a part-time position, and that DeAngelis will perform duties formerly filled by Dr. Dallas Scales.

Dawson, the shelter’s new manager, succeeds Beth Hogge. A graduate of Peninsula Catholic High School, she has worked as a veterinary assistant in private practices and the Norfolk SPCA. She is working to complete coursework toward a Veterinary Technician&rsquo...
