New principal appointed at MHS

Mathews High School has a new principal.

Albert Green, an assistant principal at Peasley Middle School in neighboring Gloucester County, was appointed to the top administrative post at MHS by the Mathews County School Board during Tuesday night’s meeting in the school’s media center.

The appointment comes about a month and a half after MHS principal Dave Malechek announced his retirement. Malechek served two terms as MHS principal: from 1998 to 2001 and from 2006 to 2011.

Green, 38, described his new position at Mathews High as his dream job. "I am honored and elated to be the next principal at Mathews High School. I intend to give my all to this position," he told school board members. "We’re just delighted to be here. I can’t thank you enough," said Green, who was accompanied at the meeting by his wife, Michelle, and their three youngest children.
