New pastor named at Mathews Chapel UMC

The Rev. Angie Hoen is the new pastor at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek. She is overjoyed to be shepherding such a vital faith community and serving the people of Mathews County, a release said.

She received a bachelor of science degree in business administration and management with a finance concentration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Hoen had a long career in banking with Bank of Virginia, NationsBank, Bank of Loudoun, NCR/AT&T, and TowneBank. Her last position was as a Vice President, Senior Project Manager at TowneBank.

She received a master of divinity degree from Duke Divinity School, graduating magna cum laude, with a certificate in Wesleyan Studies and Preaching. She is on the Duke Divinity School National Alumni Council as VP of Philanthropy, the Annual Fund Campaign Committee, and the Duke Women’s Impact Network.

Hoen has previously served on the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast’s Philanthropy team, the Southampton United Way Campaign Council, and TowneBank’s Pacesetter Campaign Leader.

Her ministries with the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church include serving on the Conference Nominations Team for Boards and Agencies, while representing the Mission Rivers District. While discerning her call to ordained ministry, she served on the Board of Ordained Ministry and the Virginia United Methodist Foundation Board. She also served as a York River Associate District Lay Leader, the Ministry of Excellence Stewardship Chair, on the Lay Servant Ministries Board, as a Certified Lay Servant.

She and her husband, Jan Freerk Hoen, have three adult children.
