York River Yacht Haven at Gloucester Point is under new ownership. Dallas, Texas-based Suntex Marinas purchased the local marina in late September, said Josalynn Claussen, director of marketing for Suntex. The company owns 16 other marinas across the United States and in the Caribbean.
“With the change in ownership, York River Yacht Haven will soon see more amenities, better services, and a new restaurant tenant to better serve our customers and make the boating experience the best it can be,” said Chris Petty, president of Suntex Marinas. The Bacot family of Gloucester had owned the marina for many years.
All facilities are now open, except for the restaurant, Claussen said. She estimated it will take approximately two months for the restaurant to reopen.
Claussen described York River Yacht Haven as a full-service destination marina. The facility occupies a 14-acre site, which includes 325 covered and open slips to accommodate permanent boats to 110 feet and transient boats to 160 feet long, full-service boatyard, marine fuel, lounge, store and a large swimming pool.
Martin Lucas of Gloucester is the new general manager. Most recently he resided in Annapolis, Md.
Lucas has more than 30 years’ boating experience, having helped found a Florida-based yachting marina business and having worked as a yacht captain. He said that his living on a boat for many years gives him a good perspective on what is needed to please customers at the local marina.
York River Yacht Haven employs 17 workers, Lucas said, adding that almost all of the workers for the Bacots have stayed on with Suntex.
