Before starting their summer vacation, the Achilles Elementary School fourth graders teamed up with art teacher Michele Abrahamson to create a mural to honor Virginia history and join the commonwealth’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Details of the mural were planned by students and include Virginia’s rivers, regions, industries, geography, and important landmarks. Each fourth grader picked up a paint brush to add to the mural. Gloucester High School alumna and muralist Emma Phillips added finishing touches to bring the students’ vision to life.
