New mural

A new mural now adorns the front façade of the Orrell Building in Mathews, home of the Friends of the Mathews Memorial Library’s book sale each Saturday. In addition to browsing for $1 books, customers are allowed to bring a well-behaved pet for a visit and have its picture taken and mounted on the wall. Artists Becky and Debbie LaFrance have tapped into this love of animals in the mural they painted around the doorway. On one side, the mural depicts an African jungle with animals reading books to each other followed by a bridge over the door with the bay and lighthouse in the background. The “booksteps” lead you across the beach to the castle bookstore. Within its two stories are all sorts of animals reading books—dogs, a bird, a possum and even a pig (all of which have visited FOL bookstore).
