Mark Shafer of Williamsburg, has been promoted as general manager of the Wawa store at White Marsh. He replaces Shawn Doran of Hayes, who was transferred to be manager of the Grafton Wawa store.

Shafer most recently served as a manager-in-training at a Wawa in Newport News. He also did some training at the chain’s Grafton store.

"This is a busy store with a loyal customer base," Shafer said. Wawa stores feature freshly-prepared deli and hot foods, prepared sandwiches and salads, fresh fruit, a large selection of beverages and many other items.

Shafer has worked in the restaurant and food service business for 30 years. He once owned two Quiznos sub shops in Newport News and has worked for a number of other restaurants including Wendy’s and Cracker Barrel.
Originally from Aiken, S.C, he attended Midwestern State University in Texas.

His wife, Karen, is a teacher at Waller Mill Elementary School in York County. They have six children.
