The Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service placed a brand-new Rescue One into service last week. The previous truck, housed at Station One, was over 25 years old and in need of upgrades of both equipment and functionality. The new rescue is a 2025 Rosenbauer Commander, according to Fire Training Captain Andy Nazak. “It was a long time coming—a lot of upgrades were needed from some of our equipment,” he said. The new Rescue One has many upgrades from its predecessor, including a five-person-cab, instead of three. “We can move more people with this truck if we need to, or if more people show up,” Nazak said. The truck now also has enough space for two sets of extrication equipment—which some may know as the Jaws of Life. “We’ve had instances in the past where we’ve needed—or it would have been much easier and faster for us to do our job if we’d had more than one set of extrication equipment,” he said. “Our old one only had one set, but this truck has two full sets.” The previous ex...
