New football coach appointed at GHS; comes from Roanoke

Brandon E. Kelley of Roanoke, has been appointed head football coach at Gloucester High School. The appointment was made by the Gloucester County School Board during its special meeting on Feb. 26.

Kelley’s appointment is effective July 1. He will also teach at GHS.

Kelley coached running backs and outside linebackers at Lord Botetourt High School last season and coached wide receivers and defensive ends at William Byrd High School in Roanoke during the 2011 season. He was the head junior varsity coach at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke from August 2008 to June 2011.

 

Kelley received a bachelor of arts degree in health and exercise sciences in 2007 from Bridgewater College, where he played outside linebacker and on special teams for the Eagles. Kelley has been a physical education specialist for Hurt Park Elementary School in Roanoke since 2007.

Kelley replaces coach Sonny Merchant who resigned last year midway through his fifth season with the Dukes.
