New food truck prepares wide range of Asian fare

On The Flip Side is a new food trailer that’s been doing brisk business selling freshly prepared Filipine food on Main Street in Mathews since early September.

Owner Mary Ann Caldwell of Gwynn’s Island said she grew tired of working in the banking industry and decided to cook dishes she learned from her mother while growing up in the Philippines. Before this new business, she had only cooked for her family.

The business derives its name because her native land is “on the other side of the world from Mathews,” Caldwell said.

With a kitchen set up inside the trailer, Caldwell said she can prepare a wide range of American-Asian cuisine. Her helpers include husband Josh, Yvonne Rich of Motorun, and Kerri Chaney of Gloucester. Caldwell has trained them in how to prepare Filipine and other Asian dishes.
