New faces join MHS jayvee volleyball

This season has brought many new faces to the junior varsity volleyball program at Mathews High School. With only five returning players coach Tina Reece had some work to do and some decisions to make.

The new team consists of five eighth graders—Keely Crittenden, Amber Jackson, Lexi Miles, Emily Sorey and Madison South. The freshmen on this year’s squad are Stacy Abernathy, Robin Barrick, Sabrina Barrick, Olivia Gwynn and Rachel Stewart. Kelly Adams, Morgan Driskell, Allison Foster and Mariah Robinson make up this year’s sophomore contingent.

On Tuesday, the Lady Devils traveled to New Kent for their first competition of the season. They took advantage of the extra sets because it was a scrimmage, so they were able to play five games to get in as much experience before tonight’s contest at Lafayette.
