New exit from Main Street Center

Visitors to Main Street Center in Gloucester are again able to exit the shopping center via the traffic light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 14, shown above. A barricade was put in place at the Gloucester U-Do-It Laundry to prevent motorists from cutting through the business’s parking lot. However, according to Jenny Crittenden, executive director of the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust, the laundry business and Main Street Center reached an agreement to reconfigure the road between the Trust’s property and the property that U-Do-It Laundry leases. The barricade was initially put in place in the summer of 2012 as Nathan Brown, owner of the laundry, said traffic constantly cutting through the parking lot was creating a safety hazard for his customers.
