Mathews County’s new building official, David Biederman, has been on the job since March, and he’s concentrating on ensuring that whatever his office does from a code standpoint doesn’t make things more expensive for Mathews residents than they have to be.
“We try to be part of the solution,” he said. “We’ll be open to alternative solutions as long as they conform to the Virginia Code.”
Although he’s fairly new to the regulatory side of the construction business, Biederman said he holds a bachelor of science degree in building construction from Virginia Tech and has worked in both residential and commercial construction in hands-on and supervisory positions, with two years as a project manager for a commercial contractor.
Biederman also served a four-year stint as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was a supply officer.
