New Bay School exhibit thinks ‘Out of the Box’

“Out of the Box,” the current exhibition at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews, revolves around creative thinking, not only on the part of the artist, but of the viewer, as well.

Featuring the work of 21 different artists, three of whom are new to the Art Speaks Gallery, the show includes a wide range of both hanging art and 3D artwork. The subject of a particular piece may not necessarily be obvious, and it may challenge the viewer, said a press release. Pieces may be realistic and unrealistic at the same time, with some works edging into the surreal.

“Many artists from this show drew inspiration not only from their own imaginations, but also from Surrealist artists of the past,” said the release. “The artwork entered in this show is very imaginative and unusual. Many of our regular artists really stretched their creativity and created art Out of the Box.”

The gallery is located on Main Street in Mathews. The show is on display through March 29.
