Never forget

Sunday’s service of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, held at the gazebo on the island park, attracted 140 worshipers to honor local first responders and to remember those who died on Sept. 11, 2001 in the terrorist attacks. Representatives of the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office, Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Mathews Animal Control were in attendance, and were guests of honor at a luncheon following the service. The guests included, from left, Lt. Donnie Wayne Owens, Kim Logan, Paul Logan, Robbie Hudgins, Kenny Garrett, Noah Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, Sid Foster, Mark Barrick, John Bassett, Steve Rife, Donnie Lewis, James Ray and Steve Ray. In front is Dawson Owens, grandson of Donnie Wayne Owens. Also present but not pictured, were Daniel Ray, Amber Smith, Robert Farmer and Robert Owens Jr.
