Nellie Mae Deal of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at her home. 

She was born in Gloucester, and was the daughter of the late James F. “Dot” Eastwood and Maybelle Bunting Eastwood. She was the widow of Paul G. Deal.

She was the oldest member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served the church for 30 years as the organist, and church treasurer and bookkeeper for nine years and a member of the “Birthday Girls” at church. She was also the organist at Beulah Baptist Church for three years.

She was also preceded in death by her son, John F. Deal, and her brother, Bernard Eastwood, and is survived by her children, Melinda Deal and Warren Deal (Becky); her grandchildren, Zackary Horsley, Eowyn Deal, and Erin Deal Johnson (Hunter), many cousins and dear friends, her granddogs, Nash, Brunor, and Arthur, and her grandcats, Lilly, Ellie, and Tiger. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, from 1-2 p.m., with funeral services starting at 2 o’clock. Burial will be private.

The family suggests the memorials be made to either Gideons International or to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

The family is very grateful for Grace Hospice and the many other medical staff and caregivers.
