Nearly $74,000 awarded in White Trust grants

Nearly $74,000 in computers and other classroom supplies, tuition reimbursement for school employees, educational trips and other items has been awarded to individuals and groups within Mathews County Public Schools through this year’s White Trust grants.

The members of the White Trust board met on May 9 to go over the requests from teachers and administrators for some of the extras that aren’t covered by the school division’s operating budget. The projects they selected, and the amounts awarded to each, were announced at the school board’s May 21 meeting, which was held at the Mathews High School media center.

"It’s just astounding," superintendent of schools David J. Holleran said of the generosity of Roz White and her late husband, Jeff V. White, who set up the trust. "We owe a lot to the trust. It really makes our (school) system better," Holleran said.
