Nasty weather kept anglers on shore last weekend

Nasty weekend weather kept many anglers off of the water.

Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek, said a lot of feeding activity continues in the creeks. "Speckled trout are feeding just on the turn of the tide," he said. "Small stripers are mixed in but they are thin."

Thrash said menhaden are scarce in the creeks and rivers.

Two boats reported good luck flounder fishing in the Cell/42A area, he added.

"Large spot are here in numbers, as are small and pan-sized gray trout," Thrash added. "Both are biting around Gwynn’s Island, on the Spike and in the Piankatank and Rappahannock River mouths."
