The name has been taken down from Lee-Jackson Elementary School, and the stone marker has also been removed from the lawn in front of the building following the Mathews County School Board’s Aug. 18 vote. Now it’s up to residents to come up with a new name for the county’s elementary school. An online survey is underway at www.surveymonkey.com/r/schoolname2020 seeking suggestions and a school board subcommittee is being formed to weigh the alternatives. The school board is expected to make a decision on the name in December.
