Myrtie Nelms Hayes, 68, of Hayes, died Sept. 29, 2021 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester.

She was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Almos and Myrtie Nelms. She retired from Newport News Shipyard after 30 years in the electrical department.

She was preceded in death by her brother, retired Virginia State Trooper Jeffrey Scott Nelms, and is survived by her daughters, Melody Armon, Taylor McAhpae, and Mandy Elaine Taylor Loving; sister, Susan Elaine Mills; brother, Kevin Nelms; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a time of fellowship from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 23, 2021 at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester.
