Music talk

Northern Neck Orchestra Music Director Michael Repper, above, will present music from the New York Youth Symphony’s new recording of compositions by three African American female composers—Florence Price, Valerie Coleman and Jessie Montgomery—at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at Good Luck Cellars 1025 Goodluck Road in Kilmarnock. Repper will underscore his commentary on the music by demonstrating selections of the works at the piano and utilizing the recorded performances. There is no admission charge for the program. Attendees will be asked to consider making a donation to the Northern Neck Orchestra. Copies of the newly released CD featuring three debut recordings will be available for purchase at $20 and signing by Repper at a “meet and greet” chat with audience members following his presentation. Repper is shown here conducting the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall.
