A Yorktown-based music studio has expanded to Gloucester. The Music Post will hold its official grand opening starting at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Shops on Hickory Fork, White Marsh.

Owner Julianne Post said the Yorktown studio opened in 2014 after she had been offering lessons from her home. At that time, she had 40 students coming and going from a small apartment. “You could see the wear and tear on the carpet from people coming and going,” Post said. “That’s when my husband told me I needed to open a commercial building.”

A graduate of Westminster Conservatory of Music in Princeton, New Jersey, Post said she thought she might want to be a lawyer after graduating from college. She worked for a law office until she realized how “cut throat” practicing law was. “I wanted to encourage people and not discourage them,” she said.
