Museum sponsors Oldest Photos of Mathews contest

The Mathews Historical Museum is sponsoring The Oldest Photos of Mathews contest.

“We are looking for the oldest photos or lantern slides or daguerreotypes of people, places, events or objects … they simply must be vintage,” said museum chair Sandy Warhol.

She said the museum is trying to locate items not yet made public or saved through such venues as the Mathews Library archives and the Gazette-Journal.

“Get out those old, old, old photo albums. Go on a foray into your grandparents’ attic,” Warhol said.

To submit an old photo, place a copy, not original, in an envelope with name and phone number, and any information about the photograph and drop it off at Coastwise Design, 330 Main Street, Mathews, between now and April 30. Multiple entries will be accepted.

Winners will be announced at May Faire on May 5 on the Court House Green, and will have their photos posted to the museum website and published in the Gazette-Journal. ...
