MRA rowers finish winter erg season

Sixteen members of the Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter ergometer training program wound up its 2015-2016 season with a trip to Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach on Saturday to compete in the 18th annual Hampton Erg Pull. The local rowers posted a number of wins.

Sponsored by the Hampton Roads Rowing Club, events were organized in 2,000-meter races for lightweight or open weight junior men, and the same for junior women with no separation for age groups.

First up was the Junior Men’s open weight group where novice Landon Hudgins, competing in his first erg pull, placed 31st of 37. Preston Hudgins, also competing in the same event, just missed the top 10 by 0.9 of a second. Novice Josh Jeffers then finished a respectable 14th of 52 in the lightweight event with veterans Lance South and Sebastian Knebl taking fourth and sixth, respectively.
