MRA rowers enjoy good results at Great Bridge Erg Sprints

The Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter training program enjoyed good results at Saturday’s third annual Great Bridge Indoor Rowing Sprints.

The Erg Sprints, held at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, is a series of multi category 2,000-meter races or team relays conducted on Concept 2 indoor rowing machines. Mobjack entered 13 athletes in seven different events to take home five silver, two bronze and four top 10 category finishes.

Girls’ 2,000-meter competition saw Mandy Moran take silver and Lillian Copeland, novice Makayla Church, Lily Baucom and novice Bri Taylor placing eighth, 11th, 12th and 16th out of 21, respectively, in the girls’ open weight varsity event. The lightweight girls’ event resulted in Macy Johnson landing another team silver and novice Scarlet Johnson took fifth of 16 in her first erg sprint experience. The girls’ 1000-meter coxswain sprint yielded novice Lisa Zerbe a bronze finish in her first taste of erg racing.
