MRA rowers compete in Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints

Twenty-five rowers from the Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter training program completed the season on Saturday at the 33rd annual Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria. 

This is the largest indoor rowing competition on the East Coast, hosting 2,000 athletes on average. Mobjack rowers competed in the 1K, 2K, and 500-meter events based on their ages and weight. 

First up were Macy Johnson, Lillian Copeland and Sandra Baer in the 13-year-old Women’s 1,000-meter race, winning gold, silver and 10th place out of 18 rowers, respectively. Lightweight coxswain Ben Stroud and Matthew Morgan competed in the matching Men’s event, placing fourth and ninth out of 15. 

Savannah Hartlove took fifth out of 30 in the 14-year-old Women’s 2,000-meter Lightweight event. In the Open Weight category of the same race, Mandy Moran took the silver finish with Lily Baucom placing 22nd, Sara Abbitt 23rd and Zoe Sawyer 24th, out of 31 compe...
