MRA partners with Land Conservancy to build rowing center

The nine-member Mobjack Rowing Association board is kicking off its partnership with the Mathews Land Conservancy’s $4 million capital campaign for funding needed to complete the Owens Community and Rowing Center at Williams Wharf.

The MLC and MRA will join to raise money and to develop and implement a broad range of new and expanded educational and healthy water-oriented programs that the new building will enable, a release stated.

The next goal in the capital campaign will be to fund the $1.5 million fifth phase of construction which would involve exterior enclosure and decks, a release said. The $690,000 third phase of steel framing and roofing is nearing completion, bringing a total funded and paid for expenditure to this point of $2,355,000.

Remaining phases cannot be completed until the funds are raised to pay for them, the release said. The MRA’s first check of $10,000 reflects giving from all its board members combined with funds raised through Mobjack Rowing Ass...
