‘Mr. Pastor Dad’: A voice of empowerment, ultimate multitasker

Patrick Billups is a busy, vivacious young father, pastor, and teacher.

Co-founder of Relevant Church in Mathews Court House (along with his wife, Carmaleta), Billups calls himself “Mr. Pastor Dad”—multiple expressions of the same goal as he tends to the needs of his flock; whether that’s the congregation of his church, the students in his classroom or at home with his children.

An empowering male voice, Patrick finds life lessons wherever he goes. “Create your own experience,” he said. “As you navigate people, learn from them and listen.”

Patrick and Carmaleta have a pair of 9-year-old twin boys—Gracen and Micah—with another baby boy on the way, due in April. His teaching career has included Mathews Elementary (formerly Lee-Jackson Elementary) for eight years and now Ware Academy. In 2014, Patrick and Carmaleta “planted” a new church, which they named Relevant.
