MPPDC adopts regional economic plan

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission has adopted a regional economic plan, executive director Lewis L. Lawrence said.

Meeting on June 26 at Land’s End in Gloucester, the commission supported a resolution on behalf of the Middle Peninsula Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

The economic initiative has said more infrastructure is necessary for business growth on the Middle Peninsula, coordinators said.

Harrison Bresee, regional economic planner for the MPPDC, said the public review period on the draft document ended June 16 and he forwarded the plan to the federal Economic Development Administration for review prior to its June 30 deadline.

Only a dozen people attended a series of four public meetings about CEDS in early June, Bresee said: seven at a meeting in Essex County, five at a meeting at MPPDC offices in Saluda, and no one at meetings scheduled for Gloucester Point or King and Queen County.
