A number of sites in Mathews County are being used for filming the upcoming independent film “The Ice at the Bottom of the World,” which features Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen and well-known actors Jake Weber, Will Patton, Jon Tenney, and Wes Chatham. Among the sites being used is the Mathews School Board Office, where crews were set up outside on Monday, as shown above, while filming was conducted inside. Court Street was lined with working trucks carrying such items as props, camera and sound equipment, rigging equipment, and electrics. Below, on the Mathews Court Green, union members Harris Chandler, at left, and Carrie Norfleet provided craft service—hydration and snacks for the cast and crew. Additional trucks were set up in the county parking lot at Port Fun. Filming is expected to continue throughout most of November.
