Moughon throws no-hitter to beat Pointers

Heading into last night’s season finale, the Mathews High School junior varsity baseball team holds an 8-7 record. In recent action, the JV Devils scored wins over Essex and West Point and fell to the Rappahannock Raiders.

Mathews stayed close with the visiting Raiders on Monday, May 6, trailing 4-3 through five innings, but Rappahannock exploded to take a 13-3 win.

The JV Devils got back in the win column two days later against the Essex Trojans. Dawson Adams pitched a five-inning gem of a game, allowing only one unearned run. The bats were led by Will Jackson with three RBIs, as Mathews prevailed, 8-2.

The winning streak continued the following night against West Point. Starting pitcher Daniel Moughon threw a complete game no-hitter. He was supported by 11 runs, led by Brady Wright, Aiden West and Joshua Wathen, and a solid defense, led by Dawson Adams at third base. ...
