A motorcyclist is dead following a single-vehicle crash that happened on Sunday afternoon on Route 17 in Gloucester, according to Matthew Demlein of the Virginia State Police. At approximately 2:45 p.m. Sunday, a motorcycle was traveling northbound on Route 17 in northern Gloucester near Enos Road when it lost control, went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver, Christopher Padgett, 39, of Hayes, died at the scene, Demlein said. This is the second traffic fatality in Gloucester County in 2026.
