Motley, Smith receive All-State honors

Gloucester High School softball players Bridget Motley and Mackenzie Smith were both named to the VHSL Division 5 All-State teams by coaches from around the state. 

Motley, a rising freshman at Virginia Tech, was named to the all-state first team as a catcher while Smith, a rising GHS senior, was named to the second team as a pitcher. Smith was also an all-state selection last year as a utility player. 

Motley hit .552 with 42 hits and drove in 40 runs from her lead-off spot this past season. She ended her high school career as a four-year starter while compiling 154 hits, 122 RBIs and 163 runs scored. 

Smith finished her junior season with an 18-3 record to go along with 241 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.56. She also hit .337 and had 33 RBIs. Smith has committed to play softball for Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
