MOTHER EDITH PAULINE HOLMES STUBBS (1931-2021)

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, Mrs. Edith Pauline Holmes Stubbs, a native of Gloucester, got on board the Morning Train from Earth to Heaven.

Mother Stubbs had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and play with folks of all backgrounds. As one neighbor and relative said, “She spread a blanket of Love across the entire community.” She and her husband, the late Deacon Calvin Stubbs, were a powerful team. They had to be. They conscientiously tried to keep their two inquisitive, strong-willed, and perpetually active sons in line. They were also a part of an extended protective community which raised the children to treat others as you wish to be treated.

Our Faith teaches us that Mother Edith lives now in the heart of God, surrounded by Love because God is love. God’s Love binds us together with eternal ties that cannot be broken. Stated differently, Eternal Life is to know God and Jesus Christ whom God sent to teach us to love. Love God, love each other and love ourselves. Mother Stubbs lived the Word which Jesus taught: LOVE. And that Love holds. That Love held through life. That Love holds even through death. So, when tears fall, we do not weep as persons who have no hope. Our tears are not filled only with sorrow. Our tears are also infused with Joy. Mother Stubbs is home for Christmas. Glory to God in the highest! On earth, peace, good will to all.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2022.
