Morrow joins Ingram and Casey on Mathews board

Mathews County voters returned Charles Ingram and Edwina Casey to the board of supervisors and Sheriff Mark Barrick to his post on Tuesday.

Challenger G.C. Morrow was also elected to one of three open at-large seats on the county board, beating out Jackie Ingram in the four-person race.

Charles Ingram and Casey split over 50 percent of the vote between them, with Ingram pulling in 1,743 votes and Casey close behind with 1,718 votes. Morrow took the third vacant seat, with 1,599 votes, although Jackie Ingram wasn’t far behind, with 1,506 votes. Incumbent Janine Burns did not seek reelection.

Morrow said he was grateful to his supporters.

“I look forward to working with the board,” he said. “I think I can offer some new views and ideas.”

Casey also expressed gratitude for the residents of Mathews who voted for her. “It was a hard-fought battle,” she said, “but I think our campaign was clean and honest.”
