‘More than a Meal’: Bay Aging program fills vital need

This year, Meals on Wheels is celebrating a milestone.

This past Tuesday, March 22, marked the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program, the federal legislation that provides funding for nutrition services for older adults and helps support programs such as Meals on Wheels.

Here in Gloucester, one of the many spokes that keeps that wheel rolling is Stewart Galloway. Galloway, a county resident for the past 17 years, was looking for a way to “give back to others, since he has been so blessed.” He started volunteering with Meals on Wheels in 2020.

Since then, every Monday he shows up early to the Gloucester Active Lifestyle Center looking to see how he can be of assistance before he ventures out on his delivery route.

Galloway goes above and beyond for the clients on his route, and has made a special bond with one in particular, Eva Belvin. Galloway owned a construction company for many years and he noticed that she needed a few minor repairs done to her...
