A job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, 7138 Buckley Hall Road, Hudgins.
Organized by Mathews Social Services self-sufficiency specialist Alice Stewart, the fair will feature over a dozen large employers searching for dependable employees for nearly 50 different types of jobs, from those requiring special licenses or certifications to those providing on-the-job training.
In addition to employer booths that those job seekers can visit, there will be an area to fill out job applications and an interview area for businesses to screen or interview potential employees.
Stewart said she and Mathews Social Services Director Tiffany Gordon had decided to have a job fair because they see “Help Wanted” signs everyplace, but the employers aren’t getting applicants. Stewart has experience helping her clients find jobs, and she’s found that job fairs don’t occur often enough or close enough to Mathews to be helpful.
While many businesses hire through online platforms these days, “It’s good to put a face with a name,” said Stewart. “It’s a networking opportunity.”
Stewart said she hopes to see a number of people find employment through the job fair, “but if just one person gets a job, we’ll call it a success.”
