More than 700 coats collected in fall drive

GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys’ Fall Coat Drive collected 702 coats plus cash from donors in the community.

GibsonSingleton primarily gave the coats to the Salvation Army, which distributed them to local children and many others in need, and the Hampton Veterans Administration Center, which serves many homeless veterans.   

“All recipients were appreciative,” said partner Ken Gibson. Hampton VA volunteer and U.S. Army infantry veteran Jeff Jacobs said the staff was grateful to receive such a large donation of winter clothing for veterans.   

Every person who donated a coat was offered an emergency phone charger or Christmas ornament from GibsonSingleton. Shelly Haywood and Lynn Parlett won Ballast Band CDs in drawings, while Linda Johnson won the grand prize of a roadside safety kit.

“Styles change, and I still had some good coats I wanted someone else to use. I was just happy to donate,” Johnson said.
