Morande gets 200th coaching win; Dukes’ record at 5-2

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team is at 4-2 overall going into the spring break. The Dukes return to action Friday, traveling to Woodside to meet the Wolverines.

Gloucester opened the season March 15 with a 6-3 win at Kecoughtan to give GHS head coach Gus Morande his 200th career win. Cash Watkins got the victory on the mound, throwing four shutout innings.

The Dukes controlled the entire game with timely hitting by Michael Diadato, who had two hits and three RBIs, and Brady Hudgins. Hudgins and Trey Fortner had two hits each. 

The Dukes lost an 8-7 heartbreaker to Woodside in the first Gloucester home game of the season on March 18. The Wolverines took an early 6-1 lead but the Dukes came back to tie it at 7-7. Woodside won with an unearned run in the seventh inning. Ridge Motley and Diadato had two hits and two RBIs each in the loss.
