The Gloucester Moose Family Players will present its spring youth musical,” Once Upon a Mattress,” on Saturday, March 16, at 3 and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 17, at 3 p.m. at the Gloucester Moose Lodge, located at 6565 Moose Drive.

This musical, written by Mary Rodgers, will showcase 50 local youth from Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties.

All proceeds from this show will benefit the VCU Children’s Cancer Hospital in honor of a youth member of the Moose Family Players who is currently a patient benefiting from the hospital’s services.

“Once Upon a Mattress” is the musical version of “The Princess and the Pea.” In this story, Princess Winnifred is an ungainly, brash girl competing for the hand of Prince Dauntless, whose domineering mother, Queen Aggravain, has declared he must marry a true princess before anyone else in the kingdom can marry. There are many jokes throughout this show for children and adults alike.
