Mobjack Rowing Association starts fall season with new coach

Mobjack rowers returned to Williams Wharf Monday to start their COVID-19 compliant fall season with a new coach on staff, Jon Lothian.

Lothian, a graduate of Gloucester High School and alumnus of both the Mobjack and GHS crews, has returned to Mathews to start a new life with his fiancée to take the position of biology teacher and crew coach at MHS.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in science education from the University of Central Florida and rowing there, Lothian spent a dozen years as a medical E.R. scribe, and a science teacher at Melbourne and Palm Bay Magnet high schools while coaching and managing rowing programs for the Space Coast Rowing Club and Melbourne H.S. crew.

Coach Tim Ulsaker, founder and head coach of Mobjack Rowing and MHS crews, said he is looking forward to working with Lothian as Mobjack moves forward with its plans to expand as a regional rowing program.
