Mobjack rowers win four medals in Alexandria championships

Thirteen Mobjack Rowing Association rowers, ranging in age from 13 to 20, competed on Saturday in the 2018 World Indoor Rowing Championships in Alexandria. Four rowers returned home with medals.

Novices Macy Johnson and Lillian Copeland took gold and silver in their age 13 1K event pulling a 4:07.2 and a 4:09.5, respectively, in their first erg sprint. At the same time, 20-year-old Sam Hutson, a returning Mobjack rower, took a bronze medal in the college-age (17-23) men’s 30-minute event finishing with 8,244 meters.

Hutson’s finish would have also brought a bronze medal in the open men’s over age 23 event. In the women’s lightweight women’s 2K for 14-year-olds, Lily Baucom took seventh place with a 9:36.9 and Savannah Hartlove took fourth place with an 8:53.2 in the age 14 open weight event.
