Mobjack rowers place at erg sprint

The Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter training program traveled to Chesapeake Saturday to compete in the second annual Great Bridge High School Crew Erg Sprint competition.

The local rowers won the Girls’ Lightweight individual race, Girls’ Lightweight and Boys’ Open Weight 4-Person Relays, and took silver in both the Girls’ and Boys’ Open Weight individual events, as well as the Girls’ Novice and Open Relays, among other top finishes.

An erg sprint is an indoor rowing machine competition where different categories are set for a 2,000-meter individual race on the Concept 2 rowing machine. 

Mobjack rowers competed with other juniors from Great Bridge, Cox, Hickory, Grassfield and Greenbrier Christian high schools as well as home-schooled juniors. As a closing event, groups of four from each team shared a machine to put in their best 500-meter dash to obtain a collective 2,000-meter time.
