Mobjack rowers excel at sprints

Fifteen members of the Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter ergometer training team competed in the 32nd annual MidAtlantic Erg Sprints, held on Feb. 4 at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria.

The young Mobjack group netted a first and second sweep in the Junior Women’s 18-19 year-olds 2,000 meter group where Katelyn James and Casey Martin pulled a 7:24.4 and 7:27.0, respectively, out of a field of 17 racers.

Top performers on the men’s side were Sebastian Knebl (6:54) winning bronze and Zach Cummings (7:10) sixth place out of 39 entries in the Men’s Junior 17 lightweight event. Novice Hunter Morton also saw first-time action in the same event, pulling a 8:02 and James Raha (6:44) took 13th of 74 entries in the Junior 17 heavyweight 2,000-meter category.

Stepping up to a stronger level than last year, Taylor Hummel (8:01) improved to 26th of 72 in the Junior 16 2,000-meter event with Rachel Witt (8:19) taking 21st of 38 in the lightweight event. Shifting fr...
