Mission Airsoft to hold grand opening Saturday

Mission Airsoft, located at 17 Plaza, Ordinary, will hold its grand opening from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday.

Owner Jason L. Hamill said he plans raffles and door prizes, serving hot dogs to the customers, who will be encouraged to try out his indoor target range.

Airsoft is a type of shooting sport where participants fire plastic pellets, like a BB, at one another over a variety of terrain, including from behind trees and mockups of buildings. The pistols and rifles are replicas of real weapons, Hamill said.

To participate, you must wear goggles and many people wear full face protective gear, Hamill said. Other items, including specialty camouflage clothing, boots, and knee pads, are optional.

Mission Airsoft is the first Airsoft store in Gloucester, he said. 

Participants mostly play on two Peninsula fields, but there are other fields in Northern Virginia and near the North Carolina border. There is no Airsoft field in Gloucester at this time. The plastic pellets can sting a bit...
