Mildred “Sweetie” Adams Shawn, age 96, of Mathews, Va., passed away on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Shawn; her sister, Minnie A. Carter, and her brother, Rodney Adams.

She was a lifelong member of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, a member of the Oriental Chapter #30 O.E.S., and the Mathews Homemakers Club.

Sweetie is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl S. Ripley (Arnold Jr.) and Karen S. Bourque (Hal); two grandchildren, Kelly B. Burns (Travis) and Adam D. Bourque (Brittany); great-grandchildren, Ashton and Ava Burns and Calianne and Harper Bourque.

The family thanks her church family, wonderful neighbors, dear friends and caregivers for the love they have shown her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, followed by a funeral service beginning promptly at 2 o’clock. Burial will follow at H. C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Va. At the request of the family, all in attendance please wear an appropriate face covering.
