MidPenVOTE dissolves organization

Due to poor attendance at its events and candidate forums, the Middle Peninsula League of Voters (MidPenVOTE) announced Tuesday morning that its members had voted to dissolve the organization.

It was not an easy decision for its members to make. “We fought it as long as we could,” said MidPenVOTE chair Katie Thompson. “We really did not want to have to do this, but we didn’t have a choice.”

She said that each event and forum required a great deal of planning, and when citizens were failing to show up, it was no longer viable for the organization to continue.

“I’m really sorry about it,” Thompson added. “It was my baby.”

Thompson founded the group in January 2006 that was originally affiliated with the League of Women Voters, a nationwide organization. She had served with a similar group while living in North Carolina.
